Three Team Training Tips for Whitening

By Anastasia Turchetta, RDH

About Anastasia Turchetta

Is your entire team using effective, patient-friendly verbal skills pertaining to whitening options for your patients? The determining factor for successful team communication will be evident when the percentage of your professional whitening business increases. Training your team and designing a fluent system of communication is pivotal for this often "gray" subject. Reserve time for a team meeting and begin with appreciating each team member's experience with whitening as shown with the first of three tips below. Assess the "buzzwords" and format it into your own universal language presented from your team to your patients.

  1. Have each team member write their experience with whitening on index cards using the guide below and discuss:
    1. What were the likes and dislikes of those product(s)?
    2. Explain the difference between OTC, take home & in office whitening.
    3. Discuss what your practice offers in professional whitening.
    4. Address investment of this service with your group, and how to approach the topic with your clients. Example, you can teach them to say, "We are proud to offer a financial option for you, so you may receive this treatment and enjoy your brighter smile sooner. You will be thrilled with the results of our in-office whitening."
  2. If sensitivity has deterred whitening treatment, is your team prepared to offer product assistance such as Relief ACP? Example: "You've mentioned previous sensitivity as a concern in continuing treatment for whitening. We now have a product that not only relieves sensitivity; it also strengthens your teeth. The product name is Relief ACP and it is effective both before and after whitening treatment. Would you like the option of using Relief ACP before your treatment?"
  3. Share with the financial coordinator or schedule coordinator the interest for a professional whitening appointment. Example: "Anastasia would like to brighten her smile via our in-office technique. She was concerned about the cost until I shared with her our awesome Care Credit plan. Ms. Financial Coordinator will be assisting you with this, Anastasia, I look forward to seeing you next week!"

  4. Defining your professional role within our health & wellness profession is the core message represented in Anastasia's energy-packed presentations and keynote sessions. Her coaching expertise implements stress free, productive assisted hygiene protocols. Whether speaking nationally or internationally, her topics embrace team-focused, patient-centered values, which compliment her 20 years of clinical hygiene experience.
